31 May (HS): “The Metro service inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is
a matter of pride for Kanpur. His foresight and dedication towards the public
has made this project more effective. Regarding this, today the Metro
arrangements were reviewed and it was ensured that the city residents get better
facilities. Also, now the journey of hours will be reduced to minutes. The
target is to extend the Metro to Naubasta by the end of this year, for which
they are continuously making efforts,” MP Ramesh Awasthi said on Saturday.
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the underground metro in Kanpur on Friday.
After this, today MP Ramesh Awasthi traveled in the metro with other public
representatives to ensure the smooth start and facilities of this new service.
MLA Surendra Maithani, District President Anil Dixit and many workers were
present with him. The MP traveled in the metro from Chunniganj to Kanpur
Central Railway Station and reviewed its arrangements. Managing Director of
Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Sushil Kumar welcomed the MP by
giving him a bouquet. The MP closely observed the arrangements of the metro and
gave the message to the passengers to follow the rules by buying tickets.
The
MP said that this metro service has reduced the distance from IIT Kanpur to
Central Railway Station to just 25 minutes, which earlier used to take more
than an hour due to traffic. He called it an important step for the city. Many
workers also travelled with the MP on this historic occasion. UPMRC Managing
Director Sushil Kumar shared the technical details of the project and assisted
in the start of operations.
Features
of the Metro: This metro is operated with driverless technology, with modern
facilities like lifts, escalators, CCTV and passenger information system. The
fare starts from Rs 10 and goes up to a maximum of Rs 40. This service will not
only save time and fuel, but will also contribute to environmental protection
and revenue growth of the city.
