Kanpur,

31 May (HS): “The Metro service inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is

a matter of pride for Kanpur. His foresight and dedication towards the public

has made this project more effective. Regarding this, today the Metro

arrangements were reviewed and it was ensured that the city residents get better

facilities. Also, now the journey of hours will be reduced to minutes. The

target is to extend the Metro to Naubasta by the end of this year, for which

they are continuously making efforts,” MP Ramesh Awasthi said on Saturday.

Prime

Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the underground metro in Kanpur on Friday.

After this, today MP Ramesh Awasthi traveled in the metro with other public

representatives to ensure the smooth start and facilities of this new service.

MLA Surendra Maithani, District President Anil Dixit and many workers were

present with him. The MP traveled in the metro from Chunniganj to Kanpur

Central Railway Station and reviewed its arrangements. Managing Director of

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Sushil Kumar welcomed the MP by

giving him a bouquet. The MP closely observed the arrangements of the metro and

gave the message to the passengers to follow the rules by buying tickets.

The

MP said that this metro service has reduced the distance from IIT Kanpur to

Central Railway Station to just 25 minutes, which earlier used to take more

than an hour due to traffic. He called it an important step for the city. Many

workers also travelled with the MP on this historic occasion. UPMRC Managing

Director Sushil Kumar shared the technical details of the project and assisted

in the start of operations.

Features

of the Metro: This metro is operated with driverless technology, with modern

facilities like lifts, escalators, CCTV and passenger information system. The

fare starts from Rs 10 and goes up to a maximum of Rs 40. This service will not

only save time and fuel, but will also contribute to environmental protection

and revenue growth of the city.
