South Salmara (Assam), 31 May (HS): Police conducted a search operation last midnight at Baktajamal crossing under Kharuwabandha police outpost of South Salmara-Mankachar district and recovered a huge amount of heroin from the helmet of a bike rider.
Kharuwabandha police said on Saturday that based on secret information, on the instructions of Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Das of South Salmara-Mankachar district, a police team led by Kharuwabandha police outpost in-charge officer Geetartha Dev Choudhury conducted a search operation at Baktajamal crossing of Hatshingimari. During the police search operation, police recovered a huge amount of heroin from Safikul Islam, the driver of a bike (AS-17E-8030) going towards Hatshingimari from Hatshingimari-Beparipara connecting road.
A biker named Shafikul Islam adopted a new method of drug smuggling and hid heroin in 25 plastic containers inside the helmet worn on his head. Police recovered the heroin from Shafikul Islam and arrested him.
It is noteworthy that the police seized 25 plastic containers filled with heroin, an Apache bike, ₹40,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the drug peddler. The arrested drug peddler is said to be Shafikul Islam (28), son of Shahidur Rahman of Shilkata village of Rajawala police station area of West Garo Hills district of neighboring state Meghalaya. Currently, the arrested drug peddler has been kept at Kharuwabandha police station for further interrogation.
