Delhi, 30 May (H.S.): Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the government's commitment to making farmers self-reliant and transforming India's agricultural landscape during the 'Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan' convention at R. S. Pura, Jammu. Accompanied by Dr. Jitendra Singh, he honored soldiers protecting border areas and acknowledged the resilience of farmers working under constant threats. Chouhan praised the valour of Indian troops, mentioning Operation Sindoor as a necessary action against cross-border terrorism. He recognized farmers as a second line of defense, asserting their courage in feeding the nation despite dangers. The Minister promised to address local farming community concerns about land rights, security, and access to government schemes, pledging to advocate for more bunkers in vulnerable regions.
Criticizing previous water-sharing decisions, he reaffirmed the importance of preserving India's water resources and commended the decision to halt the Indus Water Treaty. Chouhan also highlighted potential productivity increases for R.S. Pura Basmati rice through advanced agricultural methods.
The government’s vision of Viksit Bharat hinges on achieving Viksit Krishi, underscored by record agricultural production this year, attributed to farmers and scientists' dedication. In a push for agricultural transformation, research scientists will engage with villages for direct assistance in addressing crop diseases and enhancing productivity.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, state government, and Jammu farmers, reaffirming his commitment to elevate agriculture in Jammu & Kashmir as a national model. He emphasized the need for modern technologies, balanced fertilizer use, and high-quality seeds to boost output while protecting food supplies. Collaboration among the Union Agriculture Ministry, State Agriculture Ministry, ICAR, and local agricultural institutions is crucial for this mission. He stressed that VKSA represents a progressive step in bridging scientists and farmers, assuring no funding shortages for agricultural research, with a focus on achieving greater yields and reducing costs as seen in the upcoming Kharif season.
Shivraj singh Chouhan announced a 15-day campaign from May 29 to June 12, where agricultural scientists will instruct farmers on sustainable practices and Kharif season planning. The initiative targets educating farmers on modern technologies for Kharif crops, highlighting beneficial government schemes, advising on Soil Health Cards for crop selection and fertilizer use, and gathering feedback on farmer-led innovations to guide research. The Minister also inaugurated a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO), aimed at empowering small and marginal farmers by enhancing market access and promoting sustainable practices. This FPO is expected to improve production efficiency and ensure better returns through collective marketing. Following the inauguration, Chouhan led a pad yatra, symbolizing solidarity among progressive farmers and community members committed to strengthening agriculture. He also visited Mega Fruit Plant Nursery Chakrohi, discussing the government's Clean Plant Program and assuring farmers of support to enhance agricultural efficiency and productivity.
