Delhi, 30 May (H.S.): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report regarding the physical assault of a TV journalist in Kulthipali village, Balangir district, Odisha on 25th May 2025. The journalist was attacked while investigating alleged corruption at a construction site. He faced brutal treatment, with his limbs tied, being paraded in the village, and ultimately beaten. The NHRC noted that if the report is accurate, it indicates significant human rights violations. Consequently, a notice has been issued to the Director General of Police, Odisha, for a comprehensive report within two weeks. The perpetrators also damaged the journalist's equipment and threatened him against reporting the incident.
