Gangtok, May 29 (H.S.): Sikkim's Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, during a ceremony held at Paljor Stadium in the capital on Thursday, issued a silver coin worth 50 rupees and a commemorative postage stamp on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indrahang Subba and Rajya Sabha MP D.T. Lepcha were also present on this occasion.

The commemorative postage stamp, issued on the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Sikkim state, encapsulates the natural grandeur, cultural richness, and environmental awareness of Sikkim. The unveiling of the postage stamp and the silver coin reflects the five-decade journey of Sikkim's democratic integration, cultural pride, and socio-economic development. This stamp includes symbolic elements of Sikkim's beautiful mountains, sacred environment, and the diversity of its people, which represent the spirit of the state.

A commemorative coin weighing 40 grams and made of pure silver (99.9%) was also issued during the event. This coin has been minted at the Kolkata Mint of the Government of India and issued as non-circulating legal tender. This coin symbolizes the transformation of Sikkim from a Himalayan state to a progressive Indian state based on democracy, harmony, and development.

The unveiling of both the coin and the postage stamp is a tribute to Sikkim's inspiring story of integration, resilience, and progress. It also represents the recognition given by the Government of India to the state's contribution to the nation's unity, culture, and environmental values.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sikkim was canceled today due to bad weather. The Prime Minister inaugurated infrastructure projects while addressing the people of Sikkim virtually from Bagdogra.
