New Delhi, May 29 (H.S.): Lieutenant Commander Dilna K. and Lieutenant Commander Roopa A. of the Indian Navy returned to Goa on Thursday after completing the 'Navika Sagar Parikrama', an eight-month expedition that marked a historic first as they became the first Indian women to circumnavigate the globe. The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, commended their bravery and highlighted the journey's significance for women's empowerment. Starting from Goa on October 2, they traveled approximately 50,000 km over 25,400 nautical miles, navigating through challenging seas, adverse weather, and visiting ports in Fremantle, Lyttelton, Port Stanley, and Cape Town.

Rajnath Singh acknowledged the mental resilience demonstrated by the officers during the extensive sea voyage and expressed pride in them waving the tricolor at various ports, bringing honor to India. He encouraged them to document their experiences for future inspiration, especially for young women. The Minister, recalling an emotional virtual conversation with them, expressed his happiness in participating in their welcoming ceremony, which underscored India's pride.Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi also praised their determination and spirit, viewing their story as an inspirational tale for all Indians. The event included the launch of a photo essay book, 'Breaking Waves, Making History', that chronicles their remarkable journey.
