Delhi, 29 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched several projects in Sikkm via video conference of Bagdogra.His visit to Sikkim was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. He was set to attend the 50th anniversary celebrations of Sikkim's statehood at Paljor Stadium, which had to be conducted virtually from Bagdogra, West Bengal.
PM Modi arrived at Bagdogra around 10 am and addressed the people of Sikkim via video conference, expressing his regret for not being able to attend in person. He assured that he would visit Sikkim at the state government's convenience to celebrate this milestone.
While addressing the event, PM Modi expressed regret over the inability to attend and said, I also wanted to be a part of this celebration with you. I left Delhi early in the morning and reached Bagdogra, but the weather prevented me from going further... But such a magnificent scene is in front of me, where people are everywhere... I apologise to all of you. But as the Chief Minister has invited me, I assure you that whenever the state government , I will come to Sikkim and attend the celebrations of Sikkim completing 50 years of statehood, PM Modi.

During the NITI Aayog Governing Council's meeting in Delhi, I said that every state should develop such tourist destinations that can establish themselves internationally. The time has come for Sikkim to become a global tourist destination. Sikkim also has a vast potential for adventure and sports tourism. Our dream is to make Sikkim a hub of conferences, wellness, and concert tourism. I want the world's biggest artists to perform in the valleys of Gangtok. We conducted G20 meetings in Sikkim so the world could understand the state's potential. I am glad that the NDA government in Sikkim are making this vision a reality: PM Modi addressed through VC.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang welcomed PM Modi to the event and said, Despite wanting to, you could not come here personally on this historic occasion. Still, the people of Sikkim want to give you a hearty welcome. The 50th anniversary celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood will continue for one year. I request that if you can attend these celebrations at least once, we will be very grateful.
