Delhi, 29 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Sikkim today to commemorate 50 years of the state's statehood. He is scheduled to arrive at Gangtok’s Libing Helipad at 9:45 a.m. and will participate in the Sikkim@50 program at Paljor Stadium from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

At around 11 AM tomorrow, 29th May, I look forward to being among my sisters and brothers of Sikkim to participate in a programme to mark Sikkim@50. India is very proud of the contribution of Sikkim towards national progress. The unique culture of Sikkim is also widely admired, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on social media platform X.

The event will highlight the state's cultural richness, traditions, and natural beauty through a year-long initiative themed Sunaulo, Samriddha, and Samarth Sikkim. During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate several development projects, including a 500-bed district hospital in Namchi, a passenger ropeway in Pelling, and a statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok. He will also release a commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and stamp in honor of the anniversary. Due to heightened security concerns, extensive measures have been enforced, involving local authorities and the Special Protection Group (SPG).

The event venue is sectioned into four seating areas, with strict protocols ensuring safety and order, including a high-security zone banning mobile phones. Over 400 police personnel are deployed for effective surveillance and emergency preparedness, reflecting the significance of this milestone celebration.

Tourists are requested to vacate Gangtok by 6 a.m. to maintain safety during the PM's visit. An official advisory has been issued ahead of the VVIP event at Paljor Stadium to ensure smooth traffic, public safety, and successful program conduct. Public entry to the stadium begins at 6:30 a.m., and all vehicles and individuals must enter by 9:00 a.m. thereafter, vehicular access will be restricted, allowing only authorized services. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay visited the stadium to oversee preparations for the event.

“It is a moment of great pride and honour for us to welcome our Prime Minister on this historic occasion. I urge everyone to contribute wholeheartedly to make this event a resounding success,” chief minister Tamang said.

Security has increased in Sikkim and North Bengal, including Alipurduar, ahead of PM Modi's visit, which includes a helicopter ride from Bagdogra to Gangtok, an afternoon visit to Alipurduar, and departure to Patna via Hasimara Air Base.
