Delhi, 29 May (H.S.): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the deployment of an additional 425 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in response to the Jammu & Kashmir administration's request, to enhance security during the Amarnath Yatra from July 3 to August 9. This decision coincided with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to J&K to assess the security situation after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which was part of ‘Operation Sindoor’. The J&K government formally requested extra forces on May 20 to ensure a safe pilgrimage. Currently, 156 companies, including units from CRPF, BSF, and other CAPFs, are already stationed in the region. The additional forces will include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, and SSB. All 581 companies will remain deployed until the yatra concludes, with arrangements for their withdrawal post-event. The J&K administration has been instructed to coordinate closely on detailed deployment plans, addressing logistics and accommodations. Additionally, the MHA has directed the Ministry of Railways to allocate sufficient train coaches for the movement of security personnel. This year's yatra poses significant security challenges in light of recent attacks, as the perpetrators have not yet been apprehended.
