Delhi, 28 May (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will convene a crucial Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at his official residence. This meeting will tackle significant policy and security issues in light of the evolving national and international context. The previous Cabinet session, held on May 14, approved the establishment of a sixth semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). This unit, a collaboration between HCL and Foxconn, will be located near Jewar Airport in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, aiming to produce 20,000 wafers monthly and manufacturing 36 million display driver chips critical for various digital devices. The semiconductor sector remains a key government priority, supporting the Make in India and digital economy initiatives. Five other semiconductor units are in advanced construction stages, enhancing India’s ambitions as a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. The upcoming meeting will address ongoing security challenges and developmental policies.
