Tension on Mankachar India-Bangladesh border as BSF fires warning shots

Mankachar (Assam), 27 May (HS): A tense situation arose on the India-Bangladesh international border on Tuesday morning when the BSF fired in the air during the return of 14 Bangladeshi citizens in Thakuranbari area of Assam.

According to the information, when the BSF was in the process of sending back 14 Bangladeshis who had entered India illegally, the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) intervened. This clash took place near the zero line of the international border, where the BGB jawans had a heated argument with the BSF and moved towards the sensitive part of the border.

The situation became more serious when a large number of Bangladeshi citizens also gathered on the zero line. To bring the situation under control and avoid a clash, the BSF had to fire four rounds in the air.

After the firing, the crowd dispersed and the situation was brought under control to some extent. Indian officials have described the BGB's intervention as a violation of protocol and have raised the possibility of raising the issue formally.
