New Delhi, May 27 (HS): The Supreme Court has notified the Union Government and all states regarding a new petition challenging the Waqf Act of 1995. Chief Justice BR Gavai designated this petition to be considered alongside similar cases. During proceedings, the Chief Justice mentioned ongoing hearings for the Waqf Amendment Act of 2025 and raised concerns about potential dismissal due to delays. Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay highlighted ongoing cases, including the Places of Worship Act of 1991 and the Minority Commission Act of 1992, prompting the Chief Justice to agree to a joint hearing.
