New Delhi, May 27 (H.S.): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted terrorism as a major global threat, emphasizing that it transcends national issues and necessitates a united response from all nations. During a meeting with the Sri Lankan parliamentary delegation led by Dr. Rizvie Salih, he underscored the cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Sri Lanka, citing their shared Buddhist heritage.
Birla noted the growing cooperation in fintech and digital infrastructure, specifically mentioning the recent launch of a UPI-based payment system in Sri Lanka and advancements in maritime tourism routes. He also remarked on the role of technical innovations in enhancing transparency and public engagement in India's Parliament through digital and AI technologies. Dr. Rizvie Salih expressed appreciation for India's support, stating it would strengthen bilateral ties. The Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, Utpal Kumar Singh, attended the meeting, which was part of Sri Lanka's capacity-building program at PRIDE.
