New Delhi, February 22 (HS): Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has reserved its verdict while hearing Congress leader Karti Chidambaram's plea to stay the court proceedings in the case of accepting bribes for issuing visas to Chinese nationals. Special Judge Kaveri BaWeja ordered the verdict on March 5.
During the hearing, lawyer Siddharth Luthra appearing on behalf of Karti Chidambaram said that necessary permission has not been taken for prosecution in this case. In this case, there is no point in any legal proceedings. In this case, the court granted bail to Karti Chidambaram on June 6, 2024. The court had taken cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the ED on 19 March 2024. The ED had filed a charge sheet against Karti Chidambaram, his former chartered accountant S Bhaskar Raman, Padam Dugar, Dugar Housing Limited, Vikas Makharia, Talwandi Sabo Power Limited and Mansoor Siddiqui in this case. The ED filed the charge sheet on 25 January 2024. In this case, the CBI raided P Chidambaram's residence in May 2022. After the CBI registered the case, the ED registered the case.
According to the CBI, a case was registered on May 14, 2022 after a search at P Chidambaram's residence. Karti Chidambaram is accused of granting visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011 after illegally accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh. CBI arrested Bhaskar Raman on 18 May 2022. According to the CBI, Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) paid an amount of Rs 50 lakh to Bell Tools Limited, which in turn gave it to S Bhaskar Raman as a bribe for a Chinese visa.
