New Delhi, 30 December (HS): Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down as Vice President in July citing health reasons, is yet to be allotted an official residence, people close to him said on Tuesday.

Dhankhar resigned on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament this year. Subsequently, in September, he vacated the Vice President’s Enclave, the official residence allotted to the Vice President, and shifted to a private farmhouse in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur area.

The farmhouse, located in the Gadaipur area of Chhatarpur, belongs to INLD leader Abhay Chautala.

On August 22, Dhankhar wrote to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs seeking an official residence as per the entitlements available to former Vice Presidents. However, no accommodation has been provided to him so far, the sources said.

As a former Vice President, Dhankhar is entitled to a pension of nearly Rs 2 lakh per month, a Type VIII bungalow, one personal secretary, one additional personal secretary, one personal assistant, one physician, one nursing officer, and four personal attendants.

Under the existing provisions, after the death of a former Vice President, the spouse is entitled to a smaller Type VII residence.
