Delhi Cabinet to move proposal on environment, pollution in Assembly session

New Delhi, 30 December (HS): The Delhi Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Tuesday took several key decisions related to the upcoming Assembly session, including moving a government proposal on environment and pollution for detailed discussion.

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, briefing the media at the Delhi Secretariat, said the Delhi Assembly session will be held for four days starting January 5, during which the government will present several important proposals.

He said the session will witness an extensive and open discussion on pollution and environmental issues, with the government itself bringing a proposal on the subject. Scientific reports covering the situation over the past 20 years will be tabled in the House, and discussions will focus on gaps related to pollution as well as future action plans. All sides will be given an opportunity to present their views during the debate.

Mishra also said the government will adopt a strict stance against corruption, asserting that bribery, commission practices, theft and irregularities will not be tolerated. He added that action taken against two officials recently would serve as a precedent for action against others found guilty of corruption.

He further informed that reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General related to matters concerning the ‘Sheesh Mahal’, the Delhi Jal Board, and the functioning of universities in the higher education sector will be tabled in the Assembly. These reports will form the basis for discussions on alleged irregularities.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said allegations being circulated regarding teachers were misleading and asserted that action against corruption was being opposed for political reasons.

The decisions, the ministers said, reflect the government’s focus on transparency, accountability, and addressing environmental challenges through legislative discussion.
