Chennai, 29 December (H.S.) : Cholan Tours Private Limited, a prominent destination management company based in Trichy, officially launched its innovative Women E-Auto Driver Program in Madurai on Monday.

The initiative represents a major stride toward sustainable urban mobility and women’s empowerment in the temple city. By providing electric auto rickshaws and specialized training, the company aims to create dignified employment opportunities for local women while offering safe and professional transportation services to residents, senior citizens, and tourists.

The program was inaugurated in the presence of several high ranking officials, including Venkatesan Dhattatreyan, Regional Director of the Ministry of Tourism, and S. Vanitha, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Traffic.

During the event, the authorities emphasized that such women led transport services align with national goals for inclusive urban development and safer cities. The selected participants have undergone a structured training regime that covers road safety, customer service, soft skills, and basic tourism knowledge to ensure they can act as informed guides for international and domestic visitors.

Pandian Kumaravel, the Founder and Managing Director of Cholan Tours, stated that giving back to his home community is a privilege. He noted that the initiative is a social, not-for-profit effort designed to inspire wider support for women in sectors where they have been traditionally underrepresented.

The company, which operates across fourteen cities in India, has set women’s advancement as a primary social objective for the coming year and plans to expand this eco-friendly model to other major towns across Tamil Nadu.

To facilitate easy access for the public, the service will be managed through a dedicated mobile application where users can record their pickup and drop details.

Authorities believe that the presence of trained women drivers will instill greater confidence in commuters, especially women and elderly passengers.

With the successful rollout in Madurai, the organizers hope to set a precedent for green, gender inclusive transportation that enhances the overall tourism experience in the state.
