Lucknow,
25 Dec (HS): Mayawati, the BSP president and former chief minister of Uttar
Pradesh, voiced worry on Thursday over anti-India and anti-Hindu occurrences in
Bangladesh and urged the Centre to take more effective action. Mayawati stated in
a series of postings on her official X handle that the recent anti-India and
anti-Hindu occurrences in Bangladesh require the national government to respond
with more attentiveness and take more effective initiatives in keeping with
people's expectations. She stated that Hindu communities in neighboring
Bangladesh are often exposed to communal violence and persecution. The
way Hindu minorities in Bangladesh are being harassed by targeting their life,
property and religion has created a wave of concern not only in our country but
also elsewhere, added the politician.
Referring
to the recent assassination of a Dalit youth in Bangladesh, the BSP head stated
that the public outrage that has arisen on the streets of India over the
horrific killing of a Dalit youth there is understandable. The Indian
government is expected to take appropriate action promptly and play a more
active role at all levels, as appears to be the case. Mayawati said that, while
crimes, oppression, and prejudice against Dalits and tribals have persisted in
India for generations, the situation in Bangladesh is no less severe. Although
caste-based hatred, persecution, and exploitation of Dalits and tribals persist
in our nation, the crimes committed in neighbouring Bangladesh are exceedingly
distressing and cause significant worry, she stated.
She
noted that India's worries about the treatment of minorities in neighboring
countries remained unchanged. She expressed confidence that the people will
support the administration on this subject and asked it to pay close attention.
