Murshidabad, 24 December (H.S.): A young man who dreamt of joining the army died in a road accident on Wednesday morning in Suti police station area of Murshidabad district, West Bengal, while his friend was seriously injured.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rahul Singh (22), a resident of Maheshail under Suti police station. The seriously injured youth has been identified as Suman Das.

According to local sources, Rahul Singh and his friend Suman Das were practicing running along the national highway early Wednesday morning to improve their physical fitness in preparation for the army recruitment examination. At that time, a speeding lorry coming from the direction of Farakka hit both of them.

Eyewitnesses said the collision was so powerful that Rahul Singh was thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries. Local people immediately rushed both the injured to Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors declared Rahul Singh dead. Suman Das's condition remains critical. After receiving initial treatment, his condition worsened, and he was referred to Baharampur Medical College Hospital.

The news of the incident spread quickly, plunging the area into mourning. Rahul Singh's untimely death has left his family in shock. His family members said that Rahul dreamt of joining the Indian Army, but this accident tragically cut short his life before he could fulfill his dream.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and started an investigation into the matter.
