
Cooch Behar, 24 December (H.S.): A Trinamool Congress leader was shot outside his home in the Dinhata area of Cooch Behar district in West Bengal on Tuesday night. The injured leader has been identified as Mithun Rajbhar, a former Panchayat Samiti chairman of the Trinamool Congress and an active leader in the Village-1 area of Dinhata.
According to local sources and the police, Mithun Rajbhar left his house around 9 PM to go to a shop. As soon as he reached the road, unknown assailants opened fire on him. He was shot in the face and collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely.
Hearing the gunshot, locals rushed to the scene and immediately informed his family. He was initially taken to Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critical condition, but due to excessive bleeding and his deteriorating condition, he was referred to Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Medical College and Hospital in Cooch Behar. Doctors said that his condition was critical.
The reasons behind the attack are still unclear. The police have collected evidence from the scene and launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far. No political party has yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, another tragic incident has been reported from the Rajganj area. A Trinamool leader named Malin Roy died on the spot after being hit by a speeding pickup van that had lost control. According to locals, the high speed of the vehicle was the cause of the accident.
