
Guwahati, 22 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday paid rich tributes to legendary freedom fighter and martyr Kanaklata Barua on her birth anniversary, recalling her supreme sacrifice for the nation at a very young age.
In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister said that the unparalleled courage and martyrdom of Kanaklata Barua during the Quit India Movement of 1942 have continued to inspire generations of youths to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation. He noted that her deep patriotism and willingness to lay down her life for India’s freedom at such a tender age remain a guiding light for the youth of the country.
Dr Sarma further said that the recently held bhumi pujan for the Shaheed Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur is a fitting tribute to the brave daughter of Assam, ensuring that her memory and ideals are preserved for generations to come.
The Chief Minister offered his respectful salutations to the great Assamese icon on her sacred birth anniversary, honouring her enduring legacy and contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
