Guwahati, 20 December (HS):

Railway services in the Lumding–Guwahati section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were disrupted on Saturday following the derailment of Train No. 20507 DN Sairang–New Delhi Rajdhani Express after it hit elephants in the Jamunamukh–Kampur section under the Lumding Division.

Senior railway officials, including the General Manager of NFR, rushed to the site, and restoration work is currently underway. Owing to the incident, several trains have been cancelled, short-terminated, short-originated and regulated as a safety measure.

For journeys commencing on Saturday, Train Nos. 15927 Rangiya–New Tinsukia Express, 12067 Guwahati–Jorhat Town Jan Shatabdi Express, 15888 Guwahati–Badarpur Vistadome Express, 15928 New Tinsukia–Rangiya Express, 15666 Mariani–Guwahati Express, 55602 Lumding–Guwahati Passenger, 12068 Jorhat Town–Guwahati Jan Shatabdi Express, 15887 Badarpur–Guwahati Vistadome Express and 55601 Guwahati–Lumding Passenger have been cancelled.

Train No. 15769 Alipurduar–Mariani Express has been short-terminated at Digaru and remains cancelled between Digaru and Mariani, while Train No. 15770 Mariani–Alipurduar Express has been short-originated from Digaru and cancelled between Mariani and Digaru.

Several long-distance trains have also been regulated at different stations. Train No. 13173 Sealdah–Sabroom Kanchanjunga Express was regulated at Chaparmukh, while Train No. 12423 Dibrugarh–New Delhi Rajdhani Express (of December 19), Train No. 22504 Dibrugarh–Kanyakumari Vivek Express and Train No. 15612 Silchar–Rangiya Express were regulated at Lumding. Train No. 22502 New Tinsukia–SMVT Bengaluru Express was regulated at Hojai, and Train No. 15604 Ledo–Guwahati Intercity Express at Jugijan.

Other trains including Train Nos. 15960 Dibrugarh–Howrah Kamrup Express, 15616 Silchar–Guwahati Express, 12504 Agartala–SMVT Bengaluru Humsafar Express, 13174 Sabroom–Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express and 22503 Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Vivek Express have been regulated en route as per operational requirements. Train No. 15910 Lalgarh–Dibrugarh Avadh Assam Express was regulated at Guwahati, while Train No. 15817 Naharlagun–Shokhuvi Donyi Polo Express was regulated at Panikhaiti.

Railway authorities have advised passengers to check the latest train running status before commencing their journey, as restoration and clearance work continues on the affected section.-----------
