New Delhi, 20 December (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), describing the current state of affairs in the state as a “Mahajungle Raj.” He alleged that corruption, nepotism, and appeasement politics under the TMC government have severely stalled West Bengal’s development.
PM Modi accused the party of forcing ordinary citizens to bear hardships only to oppose the BJP.The Prime Minister addressed a rally in Taherpur, Nadia district, virtually due to adverse weather conditions. Thick fog prevented his helicopter from landing at the temporary helipad prepared in Taherpur, forcing him to return to Kolkata and connect with the gathering via phone.
Expressing regret to the crowd, he said that weather constraints prevented him from meeting the people in person, but their affection and blessings remained with him.Modi also expressed sorrow over a train accident near Taherpur station earlier in the morning. He conveyed condolences to the families of BJP workers who lost their lives while traveling to the rally amid the poor weather conditions and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Highlighting infrastructure development, PM Modi said the central government has been making constant efforts to extend modern connectivity to even the remotest corners of West Bengal. He announced that the construction of a four-lane road from Barajaguli to Krishnanagar would significantly benefit North 24 Parganas, Nadia, and the adjoining regions.
Work has also begun on the Barasat–Barajaguli four-lane project, which is expected to boost both economic activity and tourism.Recalling Nadia’s rich historical and cultural heritage, the Prime Minister said the region was the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, an eternal symbol of love, compassion, and devotion. He noted that Bengal gave the nation the immortal song “Vande Mataram,” which awakened a deep sense of patriotism during India’s freedom struggle. The country is now observing 150 years of “Vande Mataram.”
Sharpening his political attack, PM Modi stated that the nation now yearns for rapid development, pointing to the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) sweeping victory in Bihar as a recent example. “When the Ganga flows from Bihar to Bengal,” he said, “it carries with it a current of political change.”
He asserted that Bihar had rejected “Jungle Raj” with one voice, and now Bengal, too, must free itself from the “Mahajungle Raj.”Modi alleged that West Bengal is neither lacking in funds nor in schemes or central government initiatives, but its state government is engrossed in “cut money and commission” practices.
Thousands of crores worth of development projects remain stalled, he claimed. “TMC may oppose Modi a thousand times and resist the BJP with all its strength, but halting Bengal’s development is unacceptable,” he said. The Prime Minister also targeted TMC over the issue of illegal infiltration. He remarked that TMC leaders become uneasy whenever the BJP raises its voice against infiltrators.
Referring to social media campaigns featuring the slogan “Modi Go Back,” he said, “It would have been far better if every street and pole in Bengal displayed the message ‘Infiltrators Go Back.’
”Concluding his address, Modi appealed to the people of West Bengal to give the BJP a chance to accelerate the state’s growth by establishing a “double-engine government.” He affirmed that a BJP government would strive wholeheartedly to restore Bengal’s pride and fulfill the aspirations of its people.
