Bankura, 20 December (H.S.): The bodies of an elderly couple were recovered from a locked room at Kushmuri village under Indas police station in Bankura district. The deceased have been identified as Dinabandhu Kundu (86) and his wife Lakshmi Kundu (76). The police have sent both the bodies to Bishnupur District Hospital for post-mortem.
According to local sources, Dinabandhu Kundu was a retired primary school teacher. He lived in the same house with his son Asit Kundu and daughter-in-law Susmita. Both his son and daughter-in-law are also teachers by profession.
On Saturday morning, the couple's room remained locked from the inside for a considerable time. Despite repeated calls, there was no response from within. Family members then broke down the door. The scene inside the room left everyone stunned.
Lakshmi Kundu's body was found lying on the floor, while Dinabandhu Kundu's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the same room. On information, the police from Indas police station arrived at the scene and recovered the two bodies.
According to local sources, there had been ongoing family disputes for some time. Allegedly, the elderly couple's disputes with their son and daughter-in-law had even reached the police station, and they were not receiving sufficient time and attention from their family. However, the deceased couple's son, Asit Kundu, said that a family problem had occurred a few weeks ago, which was reported to the police station, but a compromise was reached there, and there had been no further problems in the family since then.
The police are investigating all the aspects of the case.
