Guwahati, 17 December (HS): A youth was arrested with a large quantity of heroin during a police operation at the Ulubari flyover area in Guwahati on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Akhilesh Kumar Verma, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said that 99 containers filled with heroin were recovered from the possession of the accused, along with cash amounting to ₹1.62 lakh. Preliminary investigation revealed that Akhilesh Kumar Verma had been staying in the city as a tenant and was allegedly involved in drug peddling.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify others linked to the drug racket, police added.----------
