The first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal has been completed with the publication of the draft voter list, revealing large-scale deletions of names across Assembly constituencies in the state.

According to official data, the Chowringhee Assembly constituency in north Kolkata recorded the highest number of deletions, with 74,510 voters removed from the previous electoral roll. The seat is represented by Trinamool Congress MLA Nayna Bandyopadhyay, a former actress-turned-politician and the wife of four-time Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

In contrast, Bankura district’s Kotulpur Assembly constituency witnessed the lowest number of deletions, with only 5,678 names removed. The seat is currently held by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Harkali Pratihar.

Jorasanko Assembly constituency in north Kolkata recorded the second-highest number of deletions, with 72,899 names struck off. The seat is represented by Trinamool Congress MLA Vivek Gupta. In south Kolkata, the Ballygunge constituency saw 65,165 voter names removed and is represented by state Tourism Minister Babul Supriyo.

In the minority-dominated Kolkata Port Assembly constituency, located in the northern part of the city, 63,717 names were deleted. The constituency is represented by Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim.

Other constituencies with high numbers of deletions include Howrah North with 60,436 names, Beleghata with 56,493, Kashipur-Belgachhia with 53,493 and Shyampukur with 42,304 deletions. Howrah North falls in the neighbouring Howrah district, while the remaining constituencies are within the Kolkata Municipal area.

Among constituencies with fewer deletions, apart from Kotulpur, Patashpur in East Midnapore recorded 6,418 deletions, Karimpur in Nadia district saw 6,559, while Nandakumar and Mahishadal in East Midnapore reported 6,651 and 6,680 deletions respectively.

Across all 294 Assembly constituencies in the state, a total of 5,820,899 voter names were removed during this phase of the revision. According to the Election Commission, the deletions include names of deceased voters, those who have shifted residences, voters who could not be traced, cases of duplicate entries and other valid reasons.
