Veteran Odia Film Producer Rabindra Mohan Sahoo Passes Away at 81


Bhubaneswar, 17 December (H.S.): Eminent Odia film producer Rabindra Mohan Sahoo passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 81.

A multifaceted personality, Sahoo made significant contributions to Odia cinema as a producer, actor, story writer, and lyricist. His work played a pivotal role in shaping the regional film industry, and his legacy continues to inspire generations of filmmakers and artistes.

Sahoo produced several landmark Odia films, including Eie ta T Dunia (1987), considered the first Odia film produced by him. His other notable productions include Bastra Haran, Bohu Hebo Emiti, Pacheri Uthila Majhi Duaru, Naga Panchami, Mani Nageswari, Sasu Hata Kari Bhauja Bedi, Kulanandan, Rasik Nagara, and Aalo Mora Kandhei.

Apart from his cinematic journey, Sahoo was also associated with public life. In the 1980s, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as a councillor of the Kendrapada Municipal Corporation. He later contested the Kendrapada Assembly constituency election as a BJP candidate, though he was unsuccessful.

Rabindra Mohan Sahoo is survived by his wife, five sons, and a daughter. His demise has been widely mourned across the Odia film fraternity and cultural circles.
