TMC on Alert After 44,770 Voters Deleted From Mamata Banerjee’s Bhabanipur Seat, Booth-Level Vigil Ordered

Kolkata, 17 December (H.S.) :

The Trinamool Congress has gone into alert mode after the deletion of 44,770 voter names from the draft electoral rolls of Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, represented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision in West Bengal.

Taking a firm stand, the Chief Minister has directed booth-level workers of the Trinamool Congress in her constituency to remain fully vigilant and ensure that not a single genuine voter’s name is removed from the electoral rolls.

A senior TMC leader said Mamata Banerjee has instructed party workers to conduct a thorough re-verification of the deleted voter list, with particular focus on names marked as “deceased” or “shifted”. Booth-level agents have been asked to physically visit the addresses of such voters to verify the ground reality and confirm whether the information recorded in the rolls is accurate.

The party leadership suspects that some voters may have been wrongly categorised as deceased or relocated. In view of this, workers have been asked to carry out door-to-door verification to prevent any genuine voter from being excluded. The Chief Minister has made it clear that under no circumstances should even a single legitimate voter be left out of the electoral list.

During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee also directed special attention towards voters residing in housing complexes and high-rise buildings, as complaints of name deletions are more likely to emerge from such areas.

It may be recalled that Mamata Banerjee had lost the Nandigram seat in the 2021 Assembly elections. She subsequently returned to the Assembly after winning the by-election from Bhabanipur, enabling her to assume office as Chief Minister for a third consecutive term.

In light of the large number of voter deletions from Bhabanipur, the Trinamool Congress is treating the issue as highly sensitive and has intensified monitoring at every level.
