Malda, 17 December (H.S.): The body of a two-year-old child, who had been missing since Tuesday evening, was found in a pond a few hundred meters from his home on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in Mothabari police station area of Malda district. The cause of the child's death remains unclear. The police are investigating the matter.

The deceased child has been identified as Tahasin, aged just two years old. He was a resident of the Uparpara area of Gangaprasad under Mothabari police station in Malda. Tahasin had been missing since Tuesday evening.

The deceased's father, Abdul Jabbar, said that the child was playing with family members at home until around 4:45 PM on Tuesday. After that, his son suddenly disappeared. Family members began searching the area, but found no trace of him.

On Tuesday night, the family filed a missing person report at Mothabari police station. The police launched an investigation and searched various areas, including Uparpara in Gangaprasad. However, the missing child could not be found that night.

On Wednesday morning, villagers spotted the child's body floating in a pond just a hundred meters from his home. The family and police were informed. The police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.

The police are investigating the cause of death. It is unclear whether it was an accident or if the child died due to some other reason.
