17 Dec (HS): In view of the dense fog and severe cold, Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath has directed officials to remain on alert throughout the state. The
Chief Minister issued clear instructions to the Divisional Commissioner,
Inspector General of Police, District Magistrates, police, traffic, and
municipal officials that negligence at any level in the protection of public life,
transportation, and the safety of the homeless will not be tolerated.
He
clearly stated that security arrangements should be maintained on all roads,
streets, highways, and expressways. He also directed increased patrolling on
expressways, extra vigilance at black spots, deployment of teams, 24x7
availability of cranes and ambulances, and fog warnings to drivers through
loudspeakers at toll plazas. He also directed ensuring traffic management in
poor visibility and warned of strict action against overspeeding.
Chief
Minister Yogi said that fog increases the risk of accidents. Therefore, the
availability of street lighting, reflectors, patrolling, and emergency services
should be ensured. Instructions have been given to identify dark spots and make
immediate arrangements there. They have been asked to coordinate with NHAI and
state highway officials to improve the arrangements.
In
view of the cold and cold wave, Chief Minister Yogi also directed that no one
be found sleeping in the open. The destitute should be transported to night
shelters, where adequate arrangements are made for heaters, bonfires, and
blankets. Cow shelters have also been directed to ensure bonfires and other
necessary arrangements to protect the cattle from the cold.
The
administration has issued 'travel guidelines' to ensure safe travel during fog
and mist.

Keep the vehicle speed below the prescribed limit during fog.

Use the vehicle's fog lights and keep the headlights on low beam.

Maintain a sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead
Avoid
frequent lane changes on expressways.

Do not overtake at all
If
the fog is very dense, don't take risks.

Make sure to apply reflective tape to the back of your vehicle.
