
Hooghly, 17 December (H.S.): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday morning raided a house at 17, Lakshmi Palli Third Lane, Ward Number 22 of Rishra Municipality. According to reliable sources, the raid was conducted in connection with a case involving financial transactions through hawala or illegal money transfer.
According to local sources, the resident of the house at 17, Lakshmi Palli Third Lane, where the investigators arrived, is Kailash Kumar Verma, who is reportedly involved in the hawala business. Kailash has two sons.
Local residents said that no member of the family interacts much with anyone in the neighborhood. Therefore, there is no specific information about their profession or business. However, some people have heard that they are involved in the hawala business.
A local resident said, The people of that family are very reserved. We sometimes see them at the tea stall, but they don't of engage in much conversation. They have been living in the Lakshmi Palli area of Rishra for a long time.
According to local sources, five ED officials, along with six CISF personnel in three vehicles, arrived at the house on Wednesday morning. The family members were questioned until 10 AM.
The officials are conducting a thorough investigation to determine if any illegal financial transactions are taking place behind the scenes. Further details of the case are awaited.
