
Cachar (Assam), 17 December (HS): Police in Silchar, the district headquarters of Cachar, have arrested three notorious drug peddlers along with a heavy consignment of banned heroin. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the police intercepted a vehicle travelling from Mizoram towards Guwahati and recovered the contraband during a special operation.
According to police sources, the heroin was being smuggled by concealing it inside 30 soap cases kept within the vehicle. The total weight of the seized heroin has been estimated at 388 grams.
Three accused have been taken into custody in connection with the case. They have been identified as Dilbar Hussain, Nazarul Hussain and Jasimuddin, all residents of Bhaga Bazar under the Dholai area.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and are carrying out intensive interrogation of the arrested drug traffickers to trace further links of the racket.
