Kolkata, 14 December (H.S.): The controversy surrounding the Lionel Messi event held at Salt Lake Stadium in West Bengal shows no signs of abating. Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee government on Sunday, posting on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He termed the incident an international embarrassment and demanded the Chief Minister's resignation.

In his post, Suvendu Adhikari wrote, International Embarrassment !!!Mamata Banerjee's Administration’s epic failure at the Salt Lake Stadium has turned Kolkata into a 'global laughingstock'. She and her inefficient Ministers, who turned the public event into an exclusive private function with access to only a select few, who swamped the Star and managed to hide him from the public view, but were made to pay huge amounts to fund the event, triggered off the chaos.

The Leader of Opposition further added, The unfortunate incident has caused embarrassment to us on the world stage ! Apologies and tactfully shifting all the blame on a 'scapegoat' conveniently, won't wash away the gross incompetence of the TMC Govt.

Suvendu Adhikari concluded his post by writing, West Bengal deserves better, and reiterated his demand for Mamata Banerjee's resignation.

Notably, a massive crowd gathered for the event featuring Argentine football star Lionel Messi at Salt Lake Stadium. There were alleged major lapses in management during the event, resulting in many spectators being unable to see Messi. Several fans who had purchased tickets complained that they were denied entry to the stadium or were unable to reach their seats.

Following the incident, the state government is facing criticism on social media, and opposition parties have termed it a failure of the government.
