Guwahati, 14 December (HS): Union Minister Pabitra Margherita on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the opposition, dismissing its claimed unity as a “so-called alliance emerging from Hotel Lily” and terming it a subject of ridicule for the people of Assam.
Addressing the media, Margherita said the alliance involving Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi was nothing new and had been repeatedly rejected by the people of the state in the past. He asserted that every time such attempts at opposition unity were made, the voters of Assam had decisively negated them.
The Union Minister also mounted a scathing criticism of Akhil Gogoi, questioning what he described as Gogoi’s inconsistent and opportunistic political stance. Margherita said the so-called opposition unity lacked clarity, credibility and public support and accused its leaders of misleading the people with hollow claims.
Reiterating confidence in the judgment of the electorate, Margherita stated that the people of Assam were well aware of such political theatrics and would continue to reject alliances that, according to him, had no real agenda for the state’s development.
