Guwahati, 14 December (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) maintained strong momentum in freight operations during last November, registering a significant 7.95% growth in freight unloading compared to the same period last year.
According to official data provided by NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma on Sunday, a total of 1,114 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded during the month, up from 1,032 rakes handled in November 2024. The improved performance reflects enhanced operational efficiency and effective monitoring across the zone.
During the period, NFR ensured smooth transportation and unloading of a wide range of essential and non-essential commodities, including FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles and tankers. These consignments were systematically unloaded at various goods sheds across the railway’s jurisdiction.
A major share of the freight movement was aimed at meeting the requirements of the northeastern states. In November 2025, Assam accounted for the highest unloading with 624 rakes, of which 324 carried essential commodities. Tripura recorded unloading of 87 rakes, Nagaland 23, Arunachal Pradesh 8, Manipur 23, Meghalaya 1 and Mizoram 12 rakes.
Outside the Northeast, within the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway, 183 rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and 153 in Bihar, comprising both essential and non-essential commodities.
Officials stated that the uninterrupted movement of freight is crucial for meeting daily necessities of the people and for strengthening economic activities in the region. Continuous monitoring and coordinated efforts at various levels have helped reduce turnaround time and further improve overall unloading efficiency.
