Karbi Anglong (Assam), 14 December (HS):
The Congress party is facing a major setback in West Karbi Anglong district, with more than 600 leaders and workers resigning en masse from the party on Sunday. The mass exit took place at Dongkamukam, where Congress members from several council constituencies announced their decision to sever ties with the party.
According to sources, the leaders and workers cited prolonged misgovernance, internal neglect and family-centric politics within the Congress as the primary reasons behind their decision to quit. They alleged that grassroots workers were consistently sidelined, leading to growing dissatisfaction within the organisation.
The large-scale resignation is being seen as a significant blow to the Congress in the hill district, raising questions over the party’s organisational strength and future prospects in West Karbi Anglong.
