Kolkata, 14 December (H.S.): Following the chaos at the Yuvabharati Krirangan stadium, former BJP MP Arjun Singh has levelled serious allegations. He claimed that a scam of approximately Rs 100 crore took place during the Messi event and that a big name is involved.
On Sunday, Arjun Singh alleged, Yesterday, voices were raised from the stadium saying that we had come to see Messi. I can say with certainty that the stadium was probably booked for a symbolic amount of five rupees or one rupee. But we have no objection to that. The objection is to the fact that ordinary people faced hardship. A water bottle costing ₹10 was sold for ₹150-200. The way Messi was whisked away is objectionable. Business worth approximately ₹100 crore was conducted.
Arjun further added, Ordinary people are saying that ₹100 crore was spent to see those who were seen on the field. Crores of rupees have been embezzled. An ED investigation is immediately required. What agreement was made, and what losses were incurred in that agreement, needs to be revealed.
He questioned, Why did the DG have to leave the press conference midway? The DG spoke emotionally, everyone can understand that. He had to leave the press conference within two minutes of speaking.
Notably, some people bought tickets for ₹4,000, some for ₹8,000, and some for ₹10,000 to see Messi. But due to the mismanagement, they couldn't even see Messi. People expressed their anger against the police and the organizers. The atmosphere in the stadium became like a battlefield. There was widespread vandalism in the stadium, and government property was also damaged.
In this situation, the state police DG, Rajiv Kumar, has spoken about refunding the money.
This incident raises serious questions about the management and transparency of large-scale events organized in the state.
