
Guwahati, 10 December (HS): Assam observed Shahid Diwas with solemn tributes and enthusiastic participation across the state on Wednesday. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, accompanied by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and state ministers Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, led the central ceremony at the newly constructed Shahid Smarak Kshetra in West Boragaon, Guwahati. The leaders paid homage to the martyrs and highlighted their sacrifices for the state’s identity and dignity.
Across districts, local administrations conducted extensive programmes to mark the occasion, featuring cultural events, community gatherings and floral tributes.
In Nagaon, the district administration organised the Shahid Diwas ceremony at Nehrubali with deep reverence. The event drew thousands, becoming a historic gathering where the collective rendition of “Shahid Pranamo Tumak” echoed as a tribute to the martyrs. More than eight thousand participants expressed their gratitude, underscoring the emotional connect of the people with the day’s significance.
Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Debasish Sharma, MLA Rupak Sharma and several dignitaries attended the programme. Speaking on the occasion, officials recalled the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs and urged the youth to actively contribute towards nation-building.--------
