Kolkata, 10 December (H.S.) :

A youth was arrested with a country-made pistol during a special naka checking operation conducted by the 41st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Maulani Ambari Hat area under Phansidewa in Siliguri.

The arrested individual has been identified as Rajabul Mohammad, a resident of Ramganj in Islampur. According to official sources, the youth had arrived in Phansidewa from North Dinajpur on Tuesday night carrying a country-made pistol and one live cartridge.

Investigators said his intention was to hand over the weapon to someone else. However, before he could do so, the SSB personnel intercepted and detained him during their routine checking.

The SSB handed the accused over to Phansidewa Police Station for further investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that Rajabul Mohammad has been involved in several criminal activities in the past.

The police have begun further legal proceedings in connection with the seizure.
