Kolkata, 10 December (H.S.) :
In a horrific road accident outside the Kolkata Race Course early Wednesday morning, four people were injured after a speeding Ferrari sports car ran over two women sanitation workers and later rammed into a lamppost before overturning.
Police said the Ferrari, which was coming from the SSKM Hospital side, hit the two women who were crossing the road, then skidded nearly 700 to 800 metres before crashing into a lamppost and flipping over.
Both sanitation workers and the two occupants of the car were severely injured. They were rushed to SSKM Hospital, where all four are undergoing treatment.
According to preliminary information, a father and son were travelling in the luxury car at the time of the accident, though their identities have not yet been confirmed. Initial investigations indicate that the vehicle was being driven at an extremely high speed, leading the driver to lose control.
A senior police officer said that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. “All aspects of the incident are being thoroughly examined before any conclusion is drawn,” he said.
The Ferrari was completely mangled in the accident. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to ascertain how the sequence of events unfolded.
