Kolkata, 10 December (H.S.) :
The Kulti Block Congress, led by its president Sukanta Das, staged a protest on Wednesday in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) office in Asansol. A large number of Congress workers participated in the demonstration.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukanta Das said that the road from Niyamatpur to Disergarh has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time, yet the administration has taken no action. He added that the Congress has repeatedly appealed to the administration at various levels, submitted applications, and handed over memorandums, but no solution has emerged so far. “That is why we are protesting in front of the PWD office,” he said.
According to Das, whenever the issue of road repair is raised, the administration claims that a water pipeline installation project is underway, and that the road will be repaired only after the pipeline work is completed. He stressed that the road is extremely important, used regularly by schoolchildren and local residents. “If we quietly wait for the pipeline work to finish, several accidents may occur,” he warned.
When contacted, the Executive Engineer of the PWD stated that a tender has already been issued for repairing the road. He added that once the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA) completes the pipeline work, road construction will begin and is expected to be completed soon.
