Guwahati, 10 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reiterated the government’s uncompromising stance against illegal encroachment, asserting that no individual or group will be allowed to occupy government land and threaten the identity and existence of indigenous communities in the state.
The Chief Minister said that successive governments in the past indulged in appeasement politics, allowing widespread encroachment on government land. He stressed that the present government is committed to protecting Assam’s land and demographic integrity by resisting every force that poses a threat to it.
Dr. Sarma highlighted that many encroachers assume they can continue expanding their illegal occupation without consequences, but the state administration is determined to dismantle such activities with strict action. “In Assam, you cannot act like a ‘Dhurandhar’. You must follow the law and vacate illegally occupied land, or else the government will assist you in doing so,” he said.
The district administration carried out a major eviction drive in Bongaigaon, successfully clearing approximately 15 acres of illegally occupied land. The Chief Minister noted that the sight of official machinery, particularly the yellow JCBs used in eviction operations, has now become a signal for encroachers to retreat.
The government affirmed that eviction operations will continue wherever illegal occupation of government land is detected, underscoring its resolve to safeguard Assam’s land and cultural identity.--------------
