New Delhi, October 3(HS): Geetanjali J Angmo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk who has been detained under the National Security Act, has moved the Supreme Court challenging his arrest. Wangchuk was taken into custody on September 26 and is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail, Rajasthan. The petition was filed on Geetanjali’s behalf by advocate Sarvam Reetam Khare, seeking Wangchuk’s release.
The plea argues that his detention is unlawful and points out that even a week after his arrest, his family has received no information about his health condition.Wangchuk had been actively demanding full statehood status for Ladakh. His arrest came in the backdrop of violent clashes during protests in Ladakh, where police firing had left four people dead.
