Kathmandu, 04 September (H.S.): A car bearing an Indian registration number lost control and plunged into Phewa Lake in Pokhra, Nepal, on Friday morning, killing two of the occupants and injuring two others.

According to police, the accident occurred on the road at Gairichauntara Ghumti in Pokhra. At around 4:50 a.m., the car, which was travelling from Sedi towards Lakeside, went out of control and plunged approximately 20 metres from the road into Phewa Lake. Four people were travelling in the car.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, a team of 15 police personnel led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Suryabahadur Bogati from Ward Police Office Baidam, along with a 13-member team led by Assistant Police Inspector Sharan Khadka from Armed Police Force Nepal No. 24 Headquarters Kalika Gan, Kaski, reached the site and launched a rescue operation.

The rescue teams pulled out 27-year-old Anmol Kumar Yadav and 33-year-old Suraj Yadav, both residents of Raxaul in Bihar, alive from the vehicle. They were taken to Gandaki Medical College for treatment. According to Kaski Police, both were in a condition to speak.

At around 5:55 a.m., two other occupants were pulled out of the waters of Phewa Lake in an unconscious condition. They were taken to Pokhra Academy of Health Sciences, Western Regional Hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead.

According to police, one of the deceased was identified on the basis of his Aadhaar card as 26-year-old Navdeep Kumar Yadav, also a resident of Raxaul in Bihar, India. The second deceased, believed to be between 40 and 45 years old, has not yet been identified.

At around 6:20 a.m., the Indian-registered car, bearing registration number BR 05 DB 6759, was pulled out of Phewa Lake with the help of a crane. The vehicle was subsequently taken to the Ward Police Office, Baidam.
