Kathmandu, 27 September (H.S.): A bridge connecting Mirmi in Syangja with Harmichaur in Gulmi was swept away by the powerful current of the Kaligandaki River in Nepal. The bridge was located downstream from the Mirmi Dam site.

Bishnu Prasad Neupane, who works at the Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower Station of the Nepal Electricity Authority, said the bridge was swept away after the water flow at the dam site of the Kaligandaki ‘A’ Hydropower Project increased significantly, bringing the bridge under the impact of the floodwaters.

Gulmi Police Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhim Kiran Bogati also confirmed that the bridge had been swept away. He said it was a Bailey bridge used by four-wheeled vehicles for transportation. The bridge was swept away by the strong flood current at around 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Following the collapse of the bridge, vehicular movement and transportation between Mirmi and Harmichaur have been disrupted.
