Guwahati, 07 August (HS): On the occasion of National Handloom Day, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid tribute to the state's handloom weavers, describing the sector as a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage and a vital source of livelihood, particularly in rural areas.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said the Assam Government has undertaken several ambitious initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic condition of weavers and making them financially self-reliant. He noted that the handloom sector has played a leading role in strengthening rural livelihoods and empowering artisans across the state.

Recalling Assam's glorious history, Dr. Sarma referred to the Ahom era, highlighting the remarkable craftsmanship of traditional weavers who were known for spinning yarn and weaving fine cloth overnight.

The Chief Minister also emphasized that the growth of the handloom sector has significantly contributed to women's empowerment and the state's socio-economic development. Extending his greetings on National Handloom Day, he expressed pride in the creativity and dedication of every handloom artisan working to preserve Assam's rich weaving tradition.---------
