New Delhi, 16 August (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union ministers and leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), paid tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his memorial ‘Sadaiv Atal’ in New Delhi on Sunday, marking his death anniversary.

Among those who paid their respects were Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh, former President Ram Nath Kovind, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, BJP president Nitin Nabin, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and several other Union ministers and political leaders.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan remembered Vajpayee in a post on X, describing him as a statesman, poet and visionary who dedicated his life to strengthening India’s unity, dignity and strategic interests.

He said Vajpayee’s commitment to nation-building, inclusive leadership and national pride would continue to inspire generations. His enduring legacy, the Vice President added, would remain a constant source of inspiration for the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Vajpayee as an exceptional statesman with extraordinary vision who devoted his life to the service of the nation. He said Vajpayee’s thoughts and efforts had inspired generations, while his leadership had strengthened the country.

Modi said Vajpayee’s emphasis on good governance and public welfare would continue to serve as a guiding principle.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Vajpayee as a patriotic statesman who dedicated every moment of his life to serving the nation. He said Vajpayee demonstrated India’s strength to the world through the nuclear tests and during the Kargil War.

At the same time, Shah said Vajpayee’s values-driven politics helped translate the ideals of Antyodaya and good governance into reality.

Shah added that Vajpayee’s towering personality and leadership would continue to inspire every BJP worker to contribute to nation-building.
