Kathmandu, 13 August (H.S.): The death toll from a landslide in Nepal’s Rolpa district has risen to three, while nine people remain missing. Two injured people have been rescued safely, and search and rescue operations are continuing with the assistance of police personnel and local residents.

The landslide occurred at around 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday in Botolbara, located in Thabang Rural Municipality of Rolpa district. The sudden landslide struck a house and buried Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar along with six houses under debris.

According to the District Police Office, Rolpa, those killed in the incident have been identified as 60-year-old Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, 18-year-old Shanti Pun Magar and 71-year-old Manrakhi Pun Magar, all residents of Thabang Rural Municipality.

Two people, identified as 22-year-old Himal Pun Magar and 25-year-old Sanjay Gharti Magar, sustained injuries in the incident. Rescue teams and local residents have been involved in the ongoing relief and search operation. Arrangements are also being made to move the injured to another location for medical treatment.

The nine people still reported missing are 40-year-old Junkumari Pun Magar, nine-year-old Ashim Pun Magar, six-year-old Ashok Pun Magar, 75-year-old Dal Bahadur Pun Magar, 80-year-old Ajambar Pun Magar, 78-year-old Bal Bahadur Pun Magar, 72-year-old Lil Bahadur Pun Magar, 71-year-old Mani Pun Magar and 67-year-old Hastakala Rokamagar.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Panchakumar Bakhu of the District Police Office, Rolpa, authorities had initially received information that 10 people were missing following the landslide. One of those reported missing has since been found dead.

Rescue personnel are continuing efforts to locate the remaining missing people amid the debris, while authorities are monitoring the situation and coordinating relief operations in the affected area.
