Islamabad, 10 August (H.S.): Pakistan’s security forces have launched a military operation against Baloch rebels in the Chidgi area of Panjgur district in Balochistan province. Several explosions were reported during the operation, with mortar shells allegedly being fired at multiple locations. Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Quetta following an incident in which armed men reportedly seized weapons from police personnel.

According to local sources cited by The Balochistan Post, Pakistani security forces are currently conducting an operation against Baloch rebels in Chidgi and adjoining areas of Panjgur district. Several explosions were reported after mortar shells were allegedly fired at different locations during the operation. The military is also reportedly using drones as part of the operation.

In a separate incident, armed men allegedly intercepted personnel of the police Eagle Squad on Kambarani Road in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on the night of August 8 and seized their weapons. According to the report, one police officer sustained minor injuries in the ensuing exchange of fire.

The armed men reportedly tied the hands of the police personnel and took away their official weapons before fleeing the area.

The Balochistan Post further claimed that Frontier Corps and police personnel have been deployed across Quetta following a security threat alert issued for the city. Police have reportedly said that the threat posed by the Baloch Liberation Army remains active in Quetta.

According to the police, around 4,000 Baloch Liberation Army fighters, including suicide bombers affiliated with the Majeed Brigade, could potentially attempt to seize control of Quetta on August 14. Security agencies have warned that government buildings and security forces could be targeted during such an attack.

The reported military operation in Panjgur and the heightened security measures in Quetta come amid continued tensions and militant activity in Balochistan, where Pakistani security forces have been carrying out operations against separatist groups.
