New Delhi, 10 August (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has directed the removal of objectionable online content targeting Bollywood actress Tabu, including material allegedly created and circulated without her consent.
A Bench headed by Justice Jyoti Singh issued the directions. The court had indicated on August 6 that it was inclined to order the removal of objectionable online material concerning the actress.
The High Court directed the removal of unauthorised content using Tabu’s name, photographs, voice and other elements associated with her identity and persona. It also directed social media and internet platforms, including Google, X and Reddit, to take down objectionable material generated or manipulated using artificial intelligence, deepfake technology and face-morphing techniques.
The court further directed certain platforms to provide basic subscriber information and IP log details relating to identified service providers, where required.
Tabu had approached the High Court seeking protection against the unauthorised use and dissemination of objectionable and AI-generated content featuring or referring to her. Her petition alleged that such material had been uploaded and circulated across social media platforms without her permission.
The case is part of a growing body of litigation concerning the protection of personality and publicity rights of public figures in the digital environment. The Delhi High Court has previously issued orders safeguarding the personality rights of several prominent personalities against unauthorised commercial, digital or other forms of exploitation.
Among those who have received such protection through court orders are cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma and Sunil Gavaskar; actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan; Congress leader Shashi Tharoor; actors Arjun Kapoor, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Vivek Oberoi; spiritual figures Aniruddhacharya, Baba Ramdev and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar; actors Sonakshi Sinha, Kajol, Nagarjuna and Aishwarya Rai; former cricketer and BJP leader Gautam Gambhir; Patanjali Ayurved co-founder Acharya Balkrishna; Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan; actor and MP Jaya Bachchan; journalist Sudhir Chaudhary; actor Abhishek Bachchan; and filmmaker Karan Johar.
